June 2018 Progreso Mexico Fishing Report

Posted by Travel Merida on Saturday, June 30, 2018, In : Chelem/Chuburna Mexico Fishing Report
Howdy folks! Well both May and June since the tarpon have moved into our area, the fishing has been both super exciting and frustrating as well..Frustrating because in the past two months, we have had 21 tarpon hook ups but only 6 photographs. As you know they are very hard to keep hooked and with all that thrashing around it is no wonder why! The coolest thing tho is we get to target the tarpon all the way thru January.

Not only the tarpon that have been exciting, but the speckled sea trout ...

Posted by Travel Merida on Sunday, January 7, 2018, In : Chelem/Chuburna Mexico Fishing Report
What an awesome month December was, not to mention our 2017 year!!! In December we hosted 36 fishing excursions finishing the year with 213 fishing excursion with guests from all over the world!! We feel so blessed that we have become the first choice for backwater fishing here in Progreso, Yucatan Mexico.

December was a strange month I have to admit...we had days where 30 fish caught in 4 hours was the norm then days where we struggles to get 5 fish on board and everything in between. Super ...

Howdy folks, well the later part of the summer and the fall here in Progreso Mexico has been such a blast to fish. Lots of 5 to 30 pound tarpon have been caught and as always lots and lots of speckled sea trout. The beauty of fishing the Ria with the clear shallow waters plus the amazing bird life and flamings is something every fisher person needs to do while in the area.

December 24th Progreso Fishing Report

Posted by Travel Merida on Thursday, December 24, 2015, In : Chelem/Chuburna Mexico Fishing Report
A Very Merry Christmas to all our fishing fans out there!!!!! Cheers to you all indeed!

Today is Christmas Eve and I feel so blessed that yesterday I received a last minute booking with a couple from Atlanta Georgia. Eric and Ashley got a true taste of top water Ria fishing here in the Yucatan of Mexico. A day full of action with Ashley catching the first fish while we were targeting the tarpon.

The wind today I have to say was blowing hard, but in the Ria we get no more than a foot swell if ...

April 28 2015 Chelem Fishing Report

Posted by Travel Merida on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, In : Chelem/Chuburna Mexico Fishing Report
Since the first of the year, the fishing here in the Yucatan of Mexico, specifically in Chelem/Chuburna, Yucatan Mexico, has been soooo awesome. Mind you the name of my website is YucatanSnook, no Snook have been caught so far this year and the awesome Tarpon won't move in till June or so. BUT, the Speckled Sea Trout have been ON! We have caught large numbers of fish and many well over the 2 pound mark and many more over 3 pounds. On light tackle and top water lures, the action is a blast!

MId January Fishing Report

Posted by Travel Merida on Saturday, January 17, 2015, In : Snook Fishing
What a beautiful Saturday this turned out to be. The forecasters for sure got it right. Light westerly wind, cool temps, and when this happens, the BIG trout turn on. Speckled Sea Trout that is. They are abundant back in the Ria and today the big ones showed up indeed.

Larry, his wife Sherry and I caught a total of 15 trout, 5 we threw back and of the final 10, 6 were over 2 pounds, one at 2.6 and the last caught by myself, 3.6 pounds, ranks as one of the biggies caught here in the past four y...

Winter Time Fishing in the Ria, Progeso Mexico

Posted by Travel Merida on Sunday, January 4, 2015, In : Snook Fishing
First let me say this, i am so pleased to see such clear water back in the Ria. I have fished these waters now for 4 years, and last year I was so shocked to see from December thru March, the water was dirty and cloudy and the fishing sucked! I was turning down tours because I just did not want to takes folks money when I knew the bite was dead. This was due to an abnormal increase in rain fall the late summer before that, as all our water runs underground, it pops up via springs in the mangr...

October 2014 Fishing Report / Fall Season Report

Posted by Randy on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, In : Snook Fishing
Ok, ok, ok, I know it has been since May since I posted a fishing report. Forgive me, been really busy and not much of a writer. The fishing since the spring here in Ria has been for the most part awesome as it always is. Don't get me wrong, because of tidal, weather and water clarity, the fishing sometimes is more like fishing instead of catching. I would step out and say that 90% of the times we have had clients out or just myself, the fishing is AWESOME.

Top water is still the lure of choi...
