Since the first of the year, the fishing here in the Yucatan of Mexico, specifically in Chelem/Chuburna, Yucatan Mexico, has been soooo awesome. Mind you the name of my website is YucatanSnook, no Snook have been caught so far this year and the awesome Tarpon won't move in till June or so. BUT, the Speckled Sea Trout have been ON! We have caught large numbers of fish and many well over the 2 pound mark and many more over 3 pounds. On light tackle and top water lures, the action is a blast!

With that said, I have not fished the Ria in the past 3 weeks or so. Many know my wife and I own a Landscape Design Company and Garden Center here in Chuburna/Chelem and we have been booked solid with work creating some amazing and beautiful installations for folks over this time. So, unfortunately no time to fish. I know that sounds terrible, but I love what I do, plus the weather has been some what unfavorable for this time of the year. High winds all day and temps hitting over 105 for 5 straight days make it really tough to fish this shallow water bay.

But Today, after scheduling this trip for over a week, proved totally perfect wind and heat wise. My good friend Bob Thomas and I launched a tad late, 930am and fished till 1pm but caught well over 20 Sea Trout with a solid number of them over 2 pounds. Just simply put, an awesome well deserved fishing day with an awesome payout! Going out again tomorrow with more local friends/clients so we are hoping the blessings will continue for a second straight day.
